Mr. Brainwash - Rubik’s David - Limited Edition
Limited edition screenprint on paper by Mr. Brainwash, Rubik’s David draws inspiration from the well-known sculpture of David by Michelangelo and adds a Rubik's Cube, thus creating a dialogue between classical world and contemporary culture.
The work is part of the “Rubiks series”, in which Mr. Brainwash depicts subjects from classical art and adds an emblematic object of mass culture as the Rubik's Cube. Invented in 1974, it is one of the world’s best selling toys and is one of the icons of the eighties, the years of Mr. Brainwash's youth.
Pop and mass culture has always been a central feature of Mr. Brainwash’s works. With the “Rubiks series” the artist creates a dialogue between ancient and modern that takes shape in the contrast between the white of the statue and the bright colors of the toy, surprising and disorienting the viewer.
Rubik’s David was created in 2020, measures 41x41 cm and is a limited edition of 50 signed and numbered pieces.
